Help the People in the Philippines in the aftermath of the typhoon

What can you do to help the people in the Philippines in the aftermath of the typhoon that killed thousands?

The truth be known, it is overpopulation combined with its resultant poverty that kills in “natural disasters” as this super typhoon is called.  Overcrowded low lying areas combined with sub standard structures were the main culprit.  The poor populate these areas and they are the ones who die or are made homeless.

What I would suggest to help the long term improvement of conditions in the Philippines is that you support the organizations and institutions that work to slow or reverse climate change and/or achieve population stability.

Here are a few suggestions but do your own research and make your own educated decisions:

Protest Against Drone Criminal, Barack Obama!

obamadrone

Join CODEPINK as they protest against President Barack Obama use of deadly drones! President Obama will be in San Francisco to attend a high-roller luncheon at the new SF Jazz Center in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley.

Obama’s drone policy is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians in Pakistan and Yemen — countries we aren’t even at war with. Since Obama has taken office, deadly drone strikes have increased, causing more drone bases to pop up across the country and across the globe to engage in surveillance and targeted killing. Join us to say stop the killing!

We understand others may have a long list of grievances against the President’s policies. We welcome other signs, groups and issues!

Monday, Nov. 25
11:00am to 1:30pm

Assemble at Patricia’s Green on Octavia and Hayes at 11AM in Hayes Valley. March to the SF Jazz Center at 11:30am where will have an outside presence against US/CIA drone strikes. Be flexible because we might have to move locations.

Support VFP Phoenix Chapter’s Right to March in the Veterans Day Parade!

Call Phoenix Mayor Stanton Now: Support VFP Phoenix Chapter’s Right to March in the Veterans Day Parade!

Veterans For Peace urges its membership to   contact or write the Mayor of Phoenix, Greg Stanton to pressure him to support and advocate for the right of the Winter Soldier Chapter Veterans For Peace in Phoenix, AZ to participate uncensored in the city’s Veterans Day Parade.

His e-mail mailto:mayor.stanton@phoenix.gov?subject=Advocate%20for%20VFP%20Winter%20Soldier%20Chapter%2075%20to%20participate%20in%20Phoenix%20Veterans%20Day%20ParaadeP.

Background:

Since late October 25, 2011, the not for profit organization Honoring Arizona’s Veterans (HAV), has waged a relentless campaign to censor (Phoenix) Winter Soldier Chapter Veterans for Peace’s (WSCVFP) Veterans Day Parade message and bar the chapter from participating in the parade.

On October 18th the chapter was notified by HAV with the tacit approval of Phoenix’s Mayor Greg Stanton that Winter Solider Chapter Veterans For Peace cannot participate in the parade.

Every year many VFP chapters find that they must struggle for their right to march in Veterans Day Parades because we carry a message of peace and demilitarization.

This year veteran members of VFP in Phoenix who suffer from varying degrees of service-connected disabilities are being denied their right to march.

Examples are

• Richard A. Smith, Esq. (USN ‘65-‘69) who has significant hearing loss from exposure to 3-inch and 5-inch naval gunfire.

• Dennis Stout (U. S. Army ‘66-‘69) who was shot and seriously wounded in action in Vietnam and

• Billy Clark (USMC ‘69-‘71) who was “blown up” by a rocket propelled grenade in My Lai, Vietnam on April 1, 1970.

We cannot stand aside and let this be. We must take action as a voice for our veteran comrades and as advocates for peace.

Let Mayor Greg Stanton know and tell him this is an outrage and unacceptable. The city of Phoenix must support all veterans, including those who work for peace. His e-mail mailto:mayor.stanton@phoenix.gov?subject=Say%20Yes%20to%20WSCVFP%20Participation%20in%20Veterans%20Day%20Parade
