Military Recruitment Education: Informed Enlistment
INFORMED ENLISTMENT
Don’t want your name, address and telephone number to go to military recruiters for the purpose of enlisting you into the military?
Read the following paragraph and be INFORMED.
The aim of most high schools is to require informed parental consent before student information is provided to any outside agency. Federal public law 107-110, section 9528 of the ESEA, ” No Child Left Behind Act” requires high school districts to release student names, addresses, and phone numbers to military recruiters upon their request. The same law also requires the high school district to notify the parent of the right to Opt Out from this by requesting that the district not release student information to military recruiters. In most cases, you can look for Opt Out forms in the annual parent/student handbook or registration packets. The Opt Out form in one area of the local county is entitled “Parental Consent/Objection Form”. Opt Out forms are normally turned in early during a new school year in order to ensure that student information not be released. It is usually best to have the form turned in during the fall registration period. However, opt out forms can be turned in at any time.
A generic opt out form can be downloaded here.

CNN Reports: Rape Victims Say Military Labels Them “Crazy”
http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/14/health/military-sexual-assaults-personality-disorder/index.html
CNN Reporter David S. Martin published this article on the CNN website Saturday. 4 women formerly in the U.S. Military tell their stories of being raped and then discharged.
CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta will report further on allegations of sexual assault in the military Saturday and Sunday April 21 and 22 at 7:30 a.m. ET on “Sanjay Gupta MD” on CNN.
RT TV is looking to interview a military member affected by prescription meds.

They have this story in mind: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-army-medication-20120408,0,1291311.story
“After two long-running wars with escalating levels of combat stress, more than 110,000 active-duty Army troops last year were taking prescribed antidepressants, narcotics, sedatives, antipsychotics and anti-anxiety drugs, according to figures recently disclosed to The Times by the U.S. Army surgeon general. Nearly 8% of the active-duty Army is now on sedatives and more than 6% is on antidepressants — an eightfold increase since 2005.”
They are struggling to find a veteran who would be ready to talk to us about their struggle with prescribed drugs addiction while on active-duty and, possibly, share with our viewers what is really going on with the prescription drugs in the military now.
They may change the name and not show their face in the report – if there are privacy concerns.
They just want to make our piece based on a real-life account of a person who experienced this problem, to tell a deeper story, a personal one – not just numbers on screen.
They would be really grateful if there’s any way you could help us finding such person.
VIDEO: Leah Bolger Protests the Congressional Super Committee
If you have been at a demonstration or march recently, you have probably chanted: “How do we end the deficit? End the wars and tax the rich!” That’s exactly what I told the so-called “super committee” in uninvited testimony last October.
Now, I am a week away from my hearing on charges of unlawful conduct–disruption of Congress, which will be Thursday, April 12th. Some of you may remember meeting a videographer named Bill Kinzie who recorded interviews with us at the convention in Portland, ME a few years ago.
Bill has made a short video with some supportive commentary from VFP friend and supporter Ben Cohen whichI hope you will share with everyone you know who is mad as hell and are ready to stand up and speak out! — Leah Bolger, President, Veterans For Peace
