Your child’s personal information sold

As a grandparent of a child in the public schools, it makes me ill to know that my grandson’s personal and confidential data will be sold or given to entrepreneurs for marketing purposes. And even sicker to know that his information is in the possession of a company owned by News Corporation.

Depleted Uranium Exposure

Bud DeRaps has been a powerful advocate for peace within the ranks of Veterans For Peace for many years. It was Bud who made the VFP national office welcome in St. Louis, by arranging for space in the basement of the World Community Center which he, with a little help from this writer, cleaned out, cleaned up and painted in time for the move from Washington DC on September 11, 2001.

Like many of us, Bud has found an issue that resonates deeply within him; the matter of Depleted Uranium exposure. Bud put this youtube video together back in 2007. For some reason, it was never disseminated to the VFP membership. Now 88 years old, Bud is still passionate about this issue. I hadn’t seen Bud for a while and it was good to see him still active at a meeting of local Progressives here in St. Louis. He asked me If I would view the video and, if I agreed with him that it was important,  try to get it out to the VFP membership.

What’s Wrong with the Los Angeles VA?

Screen shot 2013-03-24 at 10.27.00 AM

Here is a no-nonsense article that continues to expose all that’s wrong with the Los Angeles VA and those who aid and abet in this crime and corruption of forcing 20,000 disabled and disadvantaged Veterans to live homeless and hungry in back-alley squalor.

Spending multi-millions to patch up antiquated, rat-infested buildings to house a few homeless Veterans a couple of years from now is not a solution … It is the problem!

It’s time to take a stand for bold change.

Los Angeles has the largest Homeless Veteran population in the Nation. Paradoxically, Los Angeles also has the largest Veterans Home in the Nation.

Collateral Murder Video

Screen shot 2013-03-24 at 10.22.35 AM

WATCH VIDEOhttp://youtu.be/5rXPrfnU3G0

Wikileaks has obtained and decrypted this previously unreleased video footage from a US Apache helicopter in 2007. It shows Reuters journalist Namir Noor-Eldeen, driver Saeed Chmagh, and several others as the Apache shoots and kills them in a public square in Eastern Baghdad. They are apparently assumed to be insurgents. After the initial shooting, an unarmed group of adults and children in a minivan arrives on the scene and attempts to transport the wounded. They are fired upon as well. The official statement on this incident initially listed all adults as insurgents and claimed the US military did not know how the deaths ocurred. Wikileaks released this video with transcripts and a package of supporting documents on April 5th 2010 on http://collateralmurder.com

Is This The Way It Ends?

A fascinating recounting of a time when Daniel Ellsberg witnessed the launch of an MX missile. A large questions mark appeared in the sky. Will humanity transcend this time of fear, war and nuclear weapons? Dan then offers some thoughts on why the Vandenberg 15 were successful in protesting the Minuteman lll missiles at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Call President Obama now and insist that he dismantles this doomsday machine. 202-456-1111.

Delayed Entry Program

You don’t have to go! Getting out of the Delayed Entry Program is easy.

What is the Delayed Entry Program?

Most people who enlist are signed up into the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), which is also called the Delayed Enlistment Program, for up to a year before they report for active duty training. The Delayed Entry Program is particularly attractive to high school seniors who are unsure about what to do after graduation. A lot can happen in a year (especially for teenagers!), and many young people change their minds about what they want to do with their lives.

How does someone get out of the Delayed Entry Program?

While Delayed Entry Program recruits have incurred a legal obligation to the military, getting out of the Delayed Entry Program is simple: write a letter addressed to “Commander” at the recruiting station where the recruit signed up requesting separation that fully explains why the recruit is unable or unwilling to serve. If there is more than one reason, explain them all.

What kinds of reasons are acceptable?

While the military defines specific separation categories, as long as the recruit states clearly that he or she is no longer interested in serving in the military almost any reason is acceptable. Despite occasional threats of involuntary activation from recruiters the military currently releases all Delayed Entry Program recruits who request a separation.

The military’s list of discharge categories includes: conscientious objection (a belief that it is wrong to take part in war); pursuit of higher education or vocational training; civilian job opportunity; erroneous enlistment or recruiting error; failure to graduate high school; family issues (marriage, children, hardship or dependency); homosexual conduct; medical or psychological disqualifications; personal problems; failure to report for active duty; and, a catch-all “other”.
